The first Assassin's Creed video-game was released by Ubisoft in 2007 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Given the enduring popularity of the games, together with the rich worlds they create, a film adaptation was always likely. 

Building on the mythology of the games, Michael Fassbender stars as Cal Lynch, sent back to 1492 to inhabit the genetic memories of his ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha.
